Lost History of Sri Lanka (vol.01) EMPIRE
Empire of SriLanka
The acceptance of history is weighed mostly upon the depth of archeological evidence that can support a written record or folklore. Folklore is more often regarded as legends or mythological events. But can we discard folklore by simply framing it to legends. Why not look at folklore as ancient knowledge and make it a base source of unraveling the lost secrets of our ancestry. Troy, Pompeii, Babylon and even the recently discovered kingdom of Dwarka in India were merely legends or fiction. Why should we let the history be dictated and taught globally only with physical evidence put forward by American and British Archeologists. Folklore is the knowledge the indigenous people have about their roots and it is never accepted until a foreign explorer stumbles upon some ruins and publishes a paper about his findings. The Americans spent decades trying to crack the Mayan code and when they finally did they came to an understanding that communities of Maya still living in Mexico could read, write and speak the language all along. So this brings me to the argument of the existence of the ancient continent of Lanka that gloriously occupied the Indian Ocean before the time of the Mesopotamian civilizations had ever begun.
The first accepted appearance of this continent is that of Eratosthenes (276 to BC) which was also the source for the later adaptation by Ptolemy (139 AD) in his map of the world. Folklore and ancient writings speak about a continent that spread from Sri Lanka to Madagascar on one end and to Australia on the other. The genetic evidence of lemurs being found only in Madagascar and south east Asia is due to this lost mass of land that was engulfed by the ocean due to the rise in sea levels at the end of the last ice age. It is the theory of most that this mass of Land is the lost land of ancient Lemuria. Lemuria does consist the meaning of being the land of the lemurs.
In 1962, a Sri Lankan movie production called “Ran Muthu Duwa”, took place in the Indian Ocean south of Sri Lanka. To their surprise they discovered geometric structure that resembled the ruins of a city complex. There were visible steps leading further down towards the ocean but unfortunately the authorities have been unable to explore these areas in depth in order to unearth the physical evidence of the lost cities.
This lost continent is the Lost kingdom of the Emperor Ravana the Great. Folklore has it that the kingdom of 25 palaces and 400,000 built by Ravana the great were submerged in the ocean and lost forever. Ravana’s Kingdom was the most advanced civilization in the history of mankind. There is more than enough evidence to support this statement. One of the most famous and obvious example is the rock fortress Kingdom of Sigiriya. The technology used in this palace cannot be deciphered by contemporary engineers and scientists. It has baffled the world so much it is being named a world heritage site the 8th wonder of the world. It is an impossible architectural and engineering feet even by today’s sophisticated standards. What the world knows about Sigiriya is just the outer shell. The more astounding fact is that Sigiriya has a 7 storied palace carved inside the rock which is for us to discuss in a separate edition. Such was the ingenuity of the civilization that glorified the lost kingdom of Lanka
The classical Greek philosopher states in extreme detail in his works Timaeus and Critias about a water and irrigation based highly advanced civilization in a land named Atlantis. Plato describes this as a land in the Atlantic Ocean between the Americas and Europe. Plato’s work at present is considered as fiction, as was Troy, Pompeii or Babylon. However his descriptions shows remarkable resemblance to the descriptions of the lost Kingdom of Lanka. Therefore it is also a theory that Atlantis could be Plato’s description of the submerged continent of Lanka.
These are all pieces of a puzzle that needs to be put together. Furthermore if the necessary authorities can take the efforts to recover the evidence it is a matter of time to turn another piece of fiction to reality with substantial evidence.
