                                        King Rawana
                                             Emperor of Srilanka

Ravana was a powerful king mentioned in the ancient Ceylon legends. He is also known as Dasis Ravana and Visas Ravana as the main villain in the ancient Indian epic poem Ramayana written by Rishi Valmiki. However, King Rawana was a courageous and capable ruler and a pioneer in local Aryan, medical and design work. It is also said that he was an excellent harp player.

The Flower Wings and the Pointer are considered his inventions. King Rawana also wrote 'Ravana Samhita' on Archeology and Astronomy in relation to Aryan medicine. Legends say that he also contributed to the advancement of the Angam Martial Arts, an ancient martial art of Sri Lanka

Although Ravana is often described as a villain in Sri Lanka, the character of Ravana in Sri Lanka is considered a deity. King Rawana is also believed to have practiced in several parts of India as well as in the Bali Islands (present day Indonesia). It is believed among the Hindus that Ravana is a special follower of Lord Shiva. However, according to the Buddhist mythology known as the 'Lanka Thara Sutra', King Rawana was also inclined towards Buddhism.

There is a character named Ravana Raja in the Ramayana which was written much later to the era when the Ravana king is said to have lived. The other main character of the Ramayana is Rama. Scholars of the Ramayana say that Rama was a minority living in India in the 7th or 8th century BC. Thus there is no chronological match between the characters of the Ramayana.

However, scholars in the history of Sri Lanka say that certain aspects of the Ramayana were fabricated by Valmiki to uplift the dignity of their land.

According to them, Seetha is the daughter of King Ravana and the twin sister of Prince Ravana's eldest son Indrajith alias Meghnadha. It is said that Suhaili alias Princess Sita has been sent to the sea on a beautiful side Are of the opinion
